Ladies Presentation Day, group shot of the ladies on the balcony of the Shoalhaven Heads Golf Club

Ladies Presentation Day

Today was Ladies Presentation Day, the most ‘looked forward to’ day on the Ladies golf calendar. The Ladies turned out in their best Christmas outfits (Adele’s shorts were much admired) and took to the Course for 9 holes before retiring to the verandah for the presentations followed by the delicious buffet courtesy of Rene and Jodie. It was lovely to see Irene at the Club again and looking so well. Thank you to Chris and Sonja for making it such a special day for us all.  See more photos here.

Temporary greens

7th and 13th: Resurfacing

The reason behind re-surfacing the 7th and 13th is because the chemicals used have created more damage than anticipated. We attempted to over-sow twice with no results due to the chemical residual impeding the thatch layer and therefore not allowing the seed to germinate.

By removing the thatch means taking the top 100mm off the green and then incorporating new sand. We will then re-seed making sure of full success.

Works have commenced.

Unfortunately, this process will take longer, and temporary greens will be required until further notice.

4th: Redesign:

As previously advised, the 4th will now be redesigned instead of the 2nd, and this will commence January.

11th:

The front of the green is fine, and we have used turf from the nursery green on part of the affected back of the green. More turf will be used to complete and hopefully the green will be back to near normal asap.

The SHGC Board and Greens Committee understand the disappointment and frustration members must feel. However, we do see this as a short-term pain for the long-term gain scenario and appreciate your support and patience.

The good news is that we have the new 9th green back in play as a Par 5.

For the foreseeable future the course will be set up as the Par 71 with temporary greens on 4,7 and 13.

Preferred lies on fairways will remain. The fairways are excellent but with some bare patches around certain greens we deem to not ‘play as it lies’ for now.
